Emmandjay is a friendly and welcoming MHA retirement living scheme in Ben Rhydding. It is home to a vibrant community of older people who live independently in their own apartments. Residents bring a wide range of interests, backgrounds, and life stories, and the scheme is shaped by a strong culture of neighbourliness, mutual support, and shared community life.
The scheme offers a communal lounge, a lovely garden, wellbeing activities as well as regular opportunities for social connection through events, groups, and informal gatherings. While residents live independently, many value the reassurance of being part of a supportive community, especially during times of illness, transition, or bereavement.
Chaplaincy is an integral part of Emmandjay, offering pastoral care, spiritual companionship, and opportunities for worship and reflection.
The chaplain is a visible presence around the scheme — spending time in shared spaces, visiting residents in their homes when invited, and supporting the community at moments of celebration, challenge, and loss. Worship, prayer, and reflective activities take place regularly, shaped by Christian tradition while remaining open and welcoming to residents of all faiths and none.
The scheme has strong links with local churches and community groups and there is plenty of scope to deepen these relationships further. The scheme manager and colleagues are supportive of chaplaincy and see it as a key part of helping residents feel known, connected, and able to live later life well.
Emmandjay has its own rhythm and character — often lively, sometimes quiet, always shaped by the independence, humour, and generosity of the people who call it home.
