Senior Credit Controller (Hybrid Working) based in Derby

Permanent - 37 hours per week - Monday – Friday (Hybrid working model)

£33,410 rising to £35,001 per annum following successful completion of 6-month probation

As Senior credit controller you will report to the credit manager, taking ownership of your own ledger which will specifically relate to Local Authority funded residents and recharges through our Day Centre Placements. You will also be responsible for supporting and mentoring one credit control assistant.

You will act as the first line of escalation for queries and complaints, ensuring swift professional resolution. Working closely with the Accounts Receivable, Commercial finance and operational teams, you will play a key role in achieving and maintaining strong internal and external relationships.

What you will be doing:

  • Take full ownership of collecting outstanding Local Authority (LA) debt across all homes in the group
  • Monitor and manage aged debt, prioritising high‑risk and long outstanding balances
  • Proactively chase overdue payments, ensuring all follow‑ups are professional, persistent, and fully logged
  • Investigate causes of non‑payment, including placement issues, rate discrepancies, missing authorisations, and portal errors
  • Work closely with the Accounts Receivable (AR) team to ensure invoices are accurate, reissued where needed, and supported by correct documentation
  • Acting as first point of contact for more complex queries and complaints.
  • Escalate persistent or high‑value issues to senior management with clear recommendations
  • Provide day‑to‑day support, guidance, and mentoring to the Credit Control Assistant
  • Promote a collaborative, supportive team culture
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure smooth invoice handovers and accurate billing
  • Identify recurring issues and lead process improvements to prevent future disputes
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, LA contractual requirements, and regulatory standards
  • Maintain accurate, audit‑ready records of all actions and communications

    What we are looking for:

    • Proven experience in credit control, ideally at a senior level or with responsibility for complex high value accounts.
    • Strong understanding of LA placement processes, funding approvals, and residential care administration
    • A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to prioritise, follow through and take ownership.
    • Experience supporting, mentoring, or guiding junior team members
    • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, including handling sensitive or complex discussions
    • Strong communication skills
    • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively across finance and operational teams.
    • Confidence using financial systems, care home management software, and LA payment portals
